My approach

A practical approach to adult learning.

Effective learning starts with understanding the people doing the work: their experience, the demands they face, and the support they need to succeed.

My approach connects research with practice. I examine learning needs, design purposeful instruction, and help professionals apply what they learn in their day-to-day work.

Learner readiness in bus operator training

Working with Theresa Impastato, Ed.D., and Keena Smith, Ed.D., I studied learner readiness in pre-service bus operator training at one of the largest transit systems in the United States. Our mixed-methods study drew on nine data sources and more than 170 participants, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, and document analysis.

We identified opportunities to assess readiness earlier, connect instructor feedback across training settings, and give learners more differentiated and authentic practice. We delivered five recommendation areas to the organization's training and development leaders, addressing readiness assessment, learner support, instruction, practice, and the learning environment.

Learning targets and success criteria

A course for second-year teachers focused on making learning goals clear and defining what successful work looks like. The course connects instructional planning with the practical decisions educators make in the classroom.

About Danielle

An educator’s perspective on organizational learning.

I hold an Ed.D. in Leadership and Learning in Organizations from Vanderbilt University's Peabody College. As a tenured high school educator, I bring direct experience with instruction, learner support, and collaboration to my work in adult learning.

My interests center on how organizations prepare people for demanding work and how professional learning can support their development over time.
